Attendance
At Les Bois, we believe that regular attendance and punctuality at school provides students with educational benefits, personal safety, and success that builds self-esteem and employability.
Refer to Policy 3121 on the Boise Schools website for more information.
Absences
Students are allowed nine total absences per semester for any reason. Parents/guardians are responsible for alerting the school of their student's absences within 48 hours of the absence by emailing lesbois.attendance@boiseschools.org or by calling the attendance line at 208-854-5344. An answering machine is available for you to leave messages after hours and on weekends.
Any absence from one or more class periods without an oral or written excuse from the student’s parent/guardian within 48 hours is considered an unexcused absence. Students who are consistently absent without consent from their parent/guardian may lose credit for the classes in which they are chronically absent.
Activity Absences
An activity absence is an absence for school-approved programs in which classes will be missed, but does not count toward the maximum of nine absences. Students are allowed up to five activity absences per semester.
Tardies
A student is tardy if they are not in the assigned classroom before class time starts. Tardies which are caused by a late bus are not counted on the student’s record. Parents/Guardians will receive an automated notification after the fourth, fifth, and sixth tardies. Students will receive lunch detention for three days starting with their sixth tardy in a class. If a student reaches eight tardies in a class, they may face additional disciplinary action.
Request for Homework
Students are responsible for securing their own homework after an absence. Assignments are posted on Google Classroom and/or teacher web sites, and students should contact teachers directly if they have additional questions.
If a student knows they have an upcoming absence, they may obtain assignments in advance by contacting teachers via email or Google Classroom. In the case of an extended absence due to extraordinary circumstances, please contact the student's counselor.
Permit to Leave
If a student must leave school during the day, Les Bois asks for the parent/guardian to contact the attendance secretary at least an hour ahead of time at 208-854-5344 or dolores.larrick@boiseschools.org.
Closed Campus Policy
Students must stay on the school grounds from the time they arrive until they are dismissed at the end of the day. The only exception is if the student has a permit to leave, as requested by their parent/guardian.
-
Behavior & Academics
At Les Bois, we believe all students have the right to feel safe, supported, and valued in the educational environment.
Major Disciplinary Violations
A student may receive a major disciplinary violation on any school premises or at any school-sponsored activity, regardless of location. Examples of major disciplinary violations include theft, vandalization, abuse, assault, harassment, possession of weapons or illegal substances, inappropriate technology use, substance use, and involvement with gangs or hate groups.
Refer to Policy 3272 on the Boise Schools website for more information.
Public Displays of Affection
Les Bois recognizes that genuine feelings of affection may exist between students. However, we expect students to refrain from inappropriate behaviors on campus or at school-related events. This includes lewd or otherwise inappropriate kissing, touching, or fondling. We expect students to exercise good taste and judgment to maintain a distraction-free environment conducive to learning.
Cheating
Cheating of any kind is dishonest and prohibited. Examples of cheating include copying another student's work, allowing one's own work to be copied by another student, using secret notes during an exam, using artificial intelligence tools, taking pictures of assessments, and plagiarism of any kind. The consequences of cheating may include loss of credit on the assignment or loss of credit in the class.
Refer to Policy 3243 on the Boise Schools website for more information.
Bullying, Hazing, and Harassment
It is everyone’s responsibility to eliminate bullying, hazing, and harassment of all kinds. Anyone who believes they have knowledge of a person or persons affected by a violation of this policy should immediately report it to a staff member. Incidents of bullying, hazing, and harassment will be handled according to the district guidelines.
Refer to Policy 3231, Policy 3231-R(1), and Policy 3232 on the Boise Schools website for more information.
Drug-Free Environment
Students are forbidden from bringing any drug or alcohol related paraphernalia or substances to any school campus, bus, parking areas, or district-sponsored activity. Les Bois administration reserves the right to utilize police dogs and other search measures to search the premises if deemed necessary, including students’ lockers, as lockers are Boise School District property. Students must submit to a search of their belongings if a school official has reasonable suspicion that the student is in possession of materials that violate this policy.
Refer to Policy 3233 and Policy 3233-R(1) on the Boise Schools website for more information.
Suspensions
In the event that a student is suspended, Les Bois administration will contact parents/guardians as soon as possible and provide parents/guardians with the terms of the suspension. Suspensions will not exceed five school days in length except for in exceptional circumstances.
Refer to Policy 3273 on the Boise Schools website for more information.

Transportation
At Les Bois, we believe a great day starts with a safe and smooth journey to school every day.
Bus Conduct
Riding a school bus is a privilege, not a right, which each rider can keep by complying with all district policies while waiting at the bus stop, loading, riding, and unloading.
Refer to Policy 3240 and Policy 3240-R(1) on the Boise Schools website for a complete list of all student bus conduct expectations.
Temporary Bus Changes
Students who wish to ride home on the bus with a friend may do so only if there is room available on the bus. Both students must submit a note from their parent/guardian about the bus ride to the office before lunch on the day the bus change is to occur. An administrator will sign the notes if the change is approved. Students may pick up the signed notes after lunch. The signed notes must be shown to the bus driver as the students load the bus.
Students who wish to get off at another stop must bring a note about the change from their parent/guardian to the office before lunch on the day the route change is to occur. An administrator will sign the note if the change is approved. The student may pick up the signed note after lunch and must show it to their bus driver as they load the bus.
Bicycles, Skateboards, and Scooters
Les Bois is a dismount zone. Nothing is to be ridden on campus including bicycles, skateboards, scooters, and skates. Bicycles, skateboards, and scooters must be locked in the racks provided. Students are responsible for providing their own lock. The school is not responsible for damage or theft while items are parked in the racks. Skates should be stored in the student’s locker.
Automobiles
Due to safety, liability, and our neighborhood location, students are not allowed to drive to school. Special permission may be granted in the case of extraordinary circumstances. Students should meet with the assistant principal to request permission to drive to school.
-
Technology
At Les Bois, we believe that technology has the potential to enhance a successful school system.
Refer to Policy 3239, Policy 3241, and the
Boise School District Responsible Use of Technology Expectations for more information.Appropriate Use
The Boise School District monitors activity on district-issued devices and accounts in order to discourage the access of inappropriate content. If students use a district-issued device or account inappropriately, the activity will be reported to administration. Such activity could result in the suspension of accounts or the loss of the district-issued devices.
District-Issued Chromebooks
Students are responsible for their Chromebooks and other school-issued supplies. Reasonable damage is expected as a result of daily use; unreasonable damage will result in fines. Lost items must be paid for and replaced immediately.
Boise School District offers a voluntary, non-refundable, Chromebook damage deposit for $25 per year that covers accidental damage, loss, or theft one time per year. Should subsequent Chromebook damage occur, school administration may charge an additional $20 fee. Damaged or missing barcodes cost $5 to replace.
Fines and damage claims must be paid to the office at the time of damage or loss. Report cards and yearbooks may be held until fines are paid.
Personal Electronic Devices
The use of personal electronic devices (including cell phones, smart watches, portable music players, tablets, laptops, gaming devices, and headphones) is permitted on campus before and after school. All personal electronic devices must be stored in students’ lockers from the start of school until the end of the school day.
Students who do not store their personal electronic devices in their locker may have their device confiscated. On the first offense, students will be able to pick up their device in the front office after reviewing the policy with an administrator. On the second offense, a parent will be required to pick up the item. On the third offense, a parent will be required to pick up the item and the student will be required to serve lunch detention. Subsequent violations of this policy may result in Les Bois administration revoking the student’s privilege to bring devices to school

School Expectations and Procedures
At Les Bois, we believe students are more successful when school policies are clear and direct.
Hallway Expectations
Students are to be courteous in the halls at all times. This looks like walking on the right side of the hallway, using school appropriate language and volume, and looking out for others.
Students in the halls during class time must have a hall pass or be accompanied by a staff member.
The school halls are closed at 2:45 p.m., and all students must leave the building at that time unless they have a signed pass from a staff member.
Call Slips
If a student needs to see a counselor, the nurse, an administrator, or any other school personnel, the student must request a call slip from the office.
Dress Code
The Boise School District recognizes that the primary responsibility for a student's attire resides with the student and their parent(s) or guardian(s). The school district is responsible for seeing that student attire does not interfere with the health or safety of any student and that student attire does not contribute to a hostile or intimidating atmosphere for any student. The Boise School District Dress Code Policy prioritizes in-class learning time, student dignity, and positive relationships within the school community.
Students Must Wear
- Top: with non-transparent fabric in the front, back, and on the sides under the arms
- Bottoms: pants, lounge pants, sweatpants, shorts, boardshorts, skirt, dress, leggings
- Shoes are required
- Some courses may require assignment- and/or safety-specific dress (i.e. closed-toe shoes)
Students Cannot Wear
- Violent language or images
- Images or overt language depicting drugs, alcohol, or any illegal item or activity
- Hate speech, profanity, pornography
- Bathing suits
- Visible underwear (however, visible waistbands or straps on undergarments worn under other clothing are not a violation of the policy)
Students violating the dress code will be sent to the counseling center to change. Chronic dress code violations indicate that the student is ignoring school and district policy. Those students will face disciplinary action.
Refer to Policy 3223 and Policy 3234 on the Boise Schools website for more information.
LockersEach student will be assigned a locker for the storage of backpacks, books, supplies, and equipment. It is the student's responsibility to keep their locker clean and organized. Students are not allowed to share lockers or locker combinations with other students. Jamming, vandalizing, kicking, or otherwise damaging lockers is not tolerated and may result in disciplinary action.
Medication
The school nurse will administer all medications, prescription or nonprescription, except when a student has an authorization form for approved circumstances, such as the need for an inhaler. Medication for short term use must include a note from the student's parent/guardian indicating dosage and frequency. All medication given at school must be in the original bottle.
Parents may complete the health history form, which allows their student to take ibuprofen, acetaminophen, cough drops, or Tums from the nurse’s supply of these medications. The school nurse will notify parents if their student requests medication(s) frequently.
Refer to Policy 3440 on the Boise Schools website for more information.
Food and Drinks
Food and drinks are not allowed in halls or classrooms other than at specified times. Water in a water bottle with a lid is the only exception.
Emergency Drills
Fire, flood, and other emergency drills at regular intervals are required by law and are an important safety precaution. It is essential that when the first signal is given, everybody obeys the teacher's orders promptly and clears the building by the prescribed route as quickly as possible.
Meeting with Teachers
Parents may request and schedule appointments for meetings with teachers, counselors, or the administrators via email to the desired party at any time.
Visitors
All visitors, including parents and volunteers, must check in at the main office. Parents are considered partners at Les Bois Junior High and are always encouraged and appreciated. However, students may not have visitors at school. Non-attending students are not allowed on campus at any time.
Flowers, Balloons, and Food Deliveries
Deliveries will be turned away by the school

Student Activities
At Les Bois, we believe that involvement in student activities enriches the school experience.
Athletic Events
All students are expected to conduct themselves in a courteous and respectful manner during school sponsored events. This looks like following the normal school rules even when the event is not during normal school hours, being kind to opponents, throwing all trash in provided trash cans, and sitting in the provided bleachers (or other provided space as it applies). Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action.
Assemblies
Special assembly programs are for the education and enjoyment of students. In order for everyone to enjoy them, students are expected to be courteous to each other and to the presenters and organizers of the assembly. No booing, stomping, throwing things, or other rude behavior is allowed, just like in the classroom, and all talking should stop once the assembly activities have begun. Students are expected to sit with their class and the accompanying teacher.
ID Cards
All students will receive an ID card, which serves as a lunch card and library card. Their ID card also serves as an activity card if an activity sticker is purchased during pre-registration days. Students may receive discounts to high school sporting events and other activities with their activity sticker. Replacement cards are available at the registrar’s window for $5.
School Dances
Dances are for Les Bois students only. Students must have their current ID card to buy a ticket and to get into the dance. Students will not be allowed to go to their lockers before or during the dance. Tickets will be sold at the registrar’s window at break and lunch prior to the dance and at the door. Breaking school rules while at the dance may result in a student being removed from the dance and having their parent/guardian called. Students with a major disciplinary violation may not be allowed to attend
